What is Craftic?

Short story:
Craftic is where you can find DIY tutorials inspired by the craft supplies you already have. Think of it as a reverse recipe maker except with craft supplies like buttons, yarn, paper, etc.

The less short story:
Do you have a cluttered craft closet/cookie tin/shoebox full of leftover craft supplies from previous projects?
Do you feel guilty every time you look at your lonely craft supplies waiting for you to love them again?
Or, really, you want to use the things you bought with money you worked hard for? (Yes!)

That’s where Craftic comes in.

Craftic is a craft tutorial website that starts with the materials you've already got and guides you to make awesome things with them.

Craftic is an accessible resource for anyone who'd like to get crafty. It is for aspiring and seasoned crafters and everyone in between. Every tutorial is targeted to be affordable, useful, and feasible. The tutorials inspire you to make a Craftic project and not be intimidated by costly materials and tools. If there is a project that uses a special machine or pricey materials, there will be an alternative provided so you can make the project affordably.

Why “Craftic”?

Craft + (fantast)ic = Craftic. It’s that simple. :)

Who is behind Craftic?

Hello, I’m Jen - nice to meet you! Originally from Queens, New York and now based in Toronto, Canada, I’ve been crafting and tinkering for as long as I can remember.

I’m the sole founder and maker of Craftic. Maker means making code, making crafts, making content, and really, making all the things! Prior to Craftic, you may remember me as ‘mellowbeing’ from my Etsy shop and personal craft blog days.

How did Craftic start?

  • 2008: Craftic started as my Master’s thesis project in 2008 when the DIY movement was gaining momentum and the US was entering a recession. My idea for Craftic was born from combining my technical abilities, my love for crafts, and my desire to provide a way for people to be creative in an affordable manner.
  • 2016: Fast forward to November 2016 when I launched the beta version as a Tumblr blog.
  • Today: Fast fast forward to today - it’s the site you’re seeing now that I’ve built from scratch!

What’s next?

The next version of Craftic will provide community functionality such as the ability for members to add their own projects and tutorials!

So, what will you make today?
