Whether it's the beginning of a new year or a new week (any day can be a new start), you'd like to create some new habits. And of course, you'd like to stick to them for the long run and make them part of your every day life!

In this post, I'll share with you 10 tips that have helped me create new habits and keep them after the rush of the new year is over (or any day - January 1st is an arbitrary date!)

Make sure to grab the free 365-day tracker printable from Craftic as well as a bunch of others!

1. Less Is More

It might be tempting to pick several new habits to try and track but less is more! It’s much easier to keep up with just one new thing each month. You can always add a new habit next month!

2. Pick a Doable Habit

When choosing which habit to track, make sure it’s something you can actually do every day (or however frequently you’d like). The habit you choose shouldn’t add stress to your day so make it doable!

3. Pick a Habit You *Really* Want to To Do

Is this habit something you really want to develop or is it a “nice to have”? If you feel strongly about it, you’re more likely to follow through with your new habit.

If you're having trouble narrowing down and picking a new habit, try journaling about it and see what comes up for you.

4. Keep It Visible

Place your habit tracker somewhere you’ll see it every day. For example, tape it to the wall so that when you sit down at your desk, you’ll see it and remember to update it.

Another great spot is your planner - you can scale down and print your tracker at a size that works for you!

5. Make the Time

It can be difficult starting a new habit since you’re introducing something brand new to your schedule. Find the time to make it happen by doing less of something that's a lower priority or find ways to multitask, if that’s possible.

6. Plan and Schedule It

Add your new habit to your daily to do list and allot a time slot for it so that it’ll be front and center of your mind.

Writing it down will also serve as a reference document if you forget to fill out your tracker for several days!

Make sure to check out The Craftic Planner for your planning needs. It includes everything you'll need to plan out your days as well as your craft projects.

7. Make It Yours

Have fun with your tracker and use pretty markers, stickers, or doodles to mark each day. You can pick a different color theme each month to mix it up!

If you need some ideas of which markers to use, check out this Pens, Pencils, and Markers Amazon list!

8. Share It

If you’re comfortable with it, share your tracker on social media. Sharing can be a great accountability method as well as getting encouragement from your friends!

Are you following Craftic on social yet? Tag @crafticland and I'd be happy to keep you accountable with your goals!

9. Have a Buddy

If you know someone who’d also like to track something (it doesn’t have to be the same habit!), you can be accountability buddies and do regular progress check-ins.

If you need accountability buddies, check out the Craftic chat on Discord - we have a whole #accountability channel to help you stay on track!

10. Be Patient with Yourself

Starting anything new can test our patience with ourselves so don’t get frustrated if you miss a day. You can always start again tomorrow. Remember that some progress is better than no progress. 💛
